CRITIQUE/COMPETITION
Performances begin. Students perform a selection of music for judges and receive a
10-15 minute critique session​.
CLINIC
​Sit in on a relevant presentation from a local professional musician on a variety of topics beneficial to students. This year's clinician is Dr. Devin Otto, UW-Oshkosh Director of Bands.
WINNER'S RECITAL
​Winners from each category of the competition perform their music in an afternoon recital.

Having an opportunity to perform both solo and chamber music on the same day has been a lot of fun for me and my friends! And, how cool is it that there is a music festival right here in Appleton!

Does an independent or public school teacher have to be a member of FVMTA to participate?
No!  We want as many students to share their love of music as possible.  See "FEES" under Rules for ALL COMPETITIONS
Can my school band/choir/orchestra program participate?
Yes!  Interested in supplementing your school's solo/ensemble experience?  The Young Artist Festival is a great venue for school music programs!
Do students receive a rating?
Performers receive:
  • Judges' written comments available same day
  • 10-15 minute performance includes verbal interaction with judge
  • First-place, second-place, and honorable mention can be awarded in each competition
Who are the judges?
The judges are university professors and professional musicians, having many years of experience with students of all ages.
What about lunch?
Lawrence University is blocks away from a wide variety of restaurants, cafes, and bistros on College Ave, the hub of downtown Appleton.
